Our Guesthouse and Its History

For more than 30 years we have been welcoming you, our guests.

In the 70s, it was mostly Hippies who left India to come to Sri Lanka. Some of them came to Dalawella.
Karuna-Rathna und Pushpa, the newlywed couple, invited guests to stay with them and offered a room in the house.
Our family was the first in Dalawella that offered accommodation for tourists.
It did not take long until we opened our restaurant at the beautiful Dalawella Beach.
The opening of the restaurant was followed by the first Cabana located at the palmed beach with the panoramic view of the Indian Ocean.
These old friendships exist to this day.

Our family’s beloved husband, father and appreciated host Karuna-Rathna died in 1995 We keep his memory in our hearts as well as in the name of our Guesthouse.
Working together and with the support of the whole family we managed to maintain our Guesthouse service, despite this loss. We were even able to add another building.
We built the new main building with additional rooms for our guests.December 26, 2004: the catastrophe. The tsunami destroys the Sri Lankan south coast. We, just like many others, could not escape it. The enormous wave destroyed the Restaurant and the Cabanas. Thanks to a lot of luck and the joint effort of all involved, all family members as well as the guests survived the disaster.
Despite the tragedy, we were not demoralized and rebuilt the Guesthouse. We would like to express our gratitude toward our family and our friends for their help and support throughout these hard times!
In the course of the last 5 years, our Guesthouse has improved steadily. We are always aiming to develop ourselves and to optimize our standards. Our latest projects are the renovation of the bar and the construction of the outer kitchen, which has already been completed. Whatever we do, satisfied guests are our main aim as well as the praise we get. Therefore, dear guests, just like we have done in the past, we are looking forward to welcoming you in the future!
